About Alfredo Muro

Alfredo MuroAlfredo Muro was born in Lima, Peru, where he won awards and studied Latin and classical guitar styles while earning his law degree. For nine years, he juggled the two careers, but gave up the legal vocation and moved to the U.S. in 1989 to broaden his musical skills. He represented Peru in the 16th Annual International Guitar Festival in 2005, and played for the late Pope John Paul the Second at the Vatican. Muro has appeared on numerous recordings, stage, radio, and television programs. His CD’s include: Journey Through The Strings, The Musical Sea, Alfredo Muro and Friends Live at St. Gertrude Monastery, and Alma Brasileira Volumes I and II. His repertoire includes South American folk songs, Latin and mainstream jazz, Spanish and classical music, and in recent years he has specialized in Brazilian music, performing several times in Rio de Janiero and other Brazilian cities. In 2005, he was selected Musician of the Month by the Jazz Society of Oregon. The Centinela Newspaper has featured Muro as the “Hispanic of the Month.”
